With QC Workbench, you can validate entire batches of Excel reports, quickly and effectively, in minutes.
People responsible for the validation of Excel reports will soon find QC Workbench to be an indispensible tool in their mission to insure the integrity of their reports.
With QC Workbench you no longer have to choose between cost efficiency and improved business performance. QC Workbench can both lower IT costs and help bolster your department’s effectiveness.
You work for Company A... which generates 475 Sales & Bonus reports per month – one Excel workbook for each of its 475 sales territories.
You are charged, by your management, with verifying the accuracy of each report. It is critical, you are told, that each report be thoroughly validated, every month, prior to distribution.
You create a project in QC Workbench with a series of tasks that will run against all - or a selection of - the reports. You define a list of parameters to be passed to each task, such as a unique territory ID, product ID, or run date, etc, that will reflect the individual properties of each spreadsheet being validated. For each spreadsheet, a task will execute two SQL queries; the first targeting the spreadsheet, the second targeting the database where your raw data resides, and the results are compared.
When your QC Workbench project runs, it will automatically locate each Excel report by name, and execute each task, passing in the appropriate parameters. The success or failure of each task is graphically indicated.
QC Workbench works by opening your Excel workbooks as OleDB data sources allowing them to be queried with SQL, similar to an Access database. SQL can pinpoint and/or summarize exactly the spreadsheet data-points you need to validate. The process is extremely fast and efficient, and thousands of reports can be validated in minutes. Thus, a query against a spreadsheet can be compared with a query against any other database.
- Validate thousands of Excel spreadsheets in minutes.
- Tie spreadsheet data back to your database.
- Run unlimited numbers of validation tasks against each spreadsheet.
- Each task executes an SQL query against the spreadsheet and another against your database, comparing the results.
- Wizards help you pinpoint the data you need on your spreadsheets.
- Wizards guide you through setup, so you're ready to run in minutes.
- Users share projects in a common database.

QC Workbench installs easily on Windows workstations, version XP and higher, and with .NET version 3.5 installed.
On your first run, a setup wizard will walk you through a quick database setup. A connection to a Microsoft SQL Server database, 2005 or higher, is required for users to store project meta-data in a common database. The free version of Microsoft SQL Server Express is sufficient for this.
